Men and Women of Melbourne Uni!
Once again the season is almost on us and upon completion of a very successful 2015 rugby experience, the Melbourne University brains-trust have plotted and schemed over the Summer months to go that one step further in 2016.
In the midst of planning a successful assault on the competition, our ability to scrum strongly and effectively was reviewed. The master planners identified a critical need for a new scrum machine for the club and subsequently moves were made to acquire such an instrument.
To this end General Manager Jason Jones, with MU Sport support, has located a state of the art scrum machine and MU Sport have made a further offer to pay for 50% of the purchase price, leaving MURFC the task of finding $6,500 to close out the deal and a means to raise these funds has been proposed.
The club has established a ‘FAT 15’ where the first 15 contributors @ $500 per head will have their names engraved on a plate that will be attached to the scrum machine in perpetuity.
The idea, which is still in its embryo stage, has initially proved attractive with four good people committing to the special fund raiser.
And indeed, what self-respecting first, second or back rower would pass up an opportunity to be part of this select team and contribute to the advancement of the noble art of scrummaging and build the foundation of our team performances in 2016???
The Season Launch on Friday 11th March at University House is the event to start the season and this will allow the opportunity to pay full and appreciative recognition of the ‘FAT 15’.
The boys from Canterbury University are in Melbourne to play Melbourne Uni on the following Saturday and will be represented at the Season Launch.
Full details on how to donate and become a member of the FAT 15 will be available next week.
But for now, you can Register for the Season Launch!
