Lynda Petrovski, Director of Women in Rugby, is delighted to invite you to MURFC Women in Rugby Luncheon with Dr Bridie O’Donnell, to celebrate your journey, whilst listening to our inspiring guest speaker, Dr Bridie O’Donnell and connecting with other players, colleagues, guests, and management.
The Australian University Women’s 7s Series is the only domestic Australian sevens competition for Women, offering the nation’s rising talent the opportunity to train and play in ahigh-performance environment to stake their claims for national selection.
Melbourne University, in their first year saw an all-student team comprising athletes from a variety of sporting backgrounds including Touch, Australian Rules Football, Athletics and Netball making up the squad of 24.
The success of this Program has led to the MURFC forming a standalone Women’s 15 team at the club in 2019. Most of these players were all involved in AON, and this will also be their first season in the 15’s.
Dr Bridie O’Donnell, Author of ‘Life and Death – A Cycling Memoir’
Is a renowned cyclist, winning the National Time Trial title in 2008. Bridie raced in the Australian National Team, and then Professional teams in Europe and the United States, representing Australia at three World Championships.
Bridie returned to full time work in 2013 as a behaviour change physician at Epworth Health Check and Epworth Breast Service, with a part time role teaching doctor-patient communicationat Deakin University Medical School.
From 2013-2016, Bridie also managed and raced for Rush Women’s Team, a National Road Series cycling team in Australia. In 2016, she became the first Australian woman to try the UCI World Hour record in 15-years, setting a new world record at the Adelaide Superdrome. In November 2017, Bridie was appointed the Inaugural Head of the Office for Women in Sport and Recreation by the Victorian Government.
